Pan de Muerto

Pan de Muerto
For Cesar Vallejo

Grease a cookie sheet
Mix vigorously, then divide
Mold the skull and crossbones to your delight
Serve warm
Eat sugared skulls with anise and milk.

El Dia de Todos Los Muertos
Four years of Tuesdays
Eating the sugared skull
Formed at home.

Angelitos, souls of the children who have died
Viejas, souls of the old who have died
Bombs dropped like cascarones
Break bread with the dead
Who wait at the door.

The day fell on Black Tuesday this year, I think we can think of all the dead to come. I was hoping you would see this for its darkness. PS My thesis round starts right away, anyone want to read it? I also had to come up with an intro. Sure was hard.

Oh and I am single again-
